Mr Munawar Hussain
Mr Munawar Hussain is a senior NHS Consultant in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine at Southend University Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. He holds dual Certificates of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, awarded by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the General Medical Council (GMC).
An RCOG-accredited Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, and a British Menopause Society (BMS) Menopause Specialist, Mr Hussain is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He obtained a prestigious Master’s degree in Human Reproduction and Development with distinction from the University of Bristol.
Having completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in London, Mr Hussain pursued his passion for reproductive health through RCOG-accredited subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at University Hospital Bristol.
With over twenty-seven years of clinical experience, Mr Hussain provides comprehensive care for a wide range of gynaecological conditions including heavy or painful periods, menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), recurrent miscarriage, menopause, and infertility.
A recognised BMS specialist and trainer in menopause care, he leads dedicated menopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) clinics, offering expertise in managing hormonal disorders such as PCOS, PMS/PMDD, amenorrhoea, and premature ovarian insufficiency.
Mr Hussain provides specialist guidance to couples facing fertility challenges, addressing both male and female factors including low sperm count, tubal blockage, fibroids, and endometriosis. His advanced expertise encompasses ovulation induction, IVF, ICSI, and IUI treatments, with a particular interest in poor ovarian reserve and recurrent implantation failure.
He is highly skilled in minimal access (keyhole) surgery, performing advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures for the treatment of ovarian cysts, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and polyps, as well as endometrial ablation.
Deeply committed to research and education, Mr Hussain’s work has been published and presented internationally in the fields of infertility, reproductive medicine, and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. He is actively involved in postgraduate training through Health Education East of England, the RCOG, and the British Fertility Society.
Mr Hussain is an active member of several professional organisations, including the British Fertility Society (BFS), British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE), British Menopause Society (BMS), and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
