Pelvic health consultation
It’s important to note, however, that our Obstetric Care and Gynaecological services require a personal touch and the precision of clinic-based resources; thus, we kindly ask you to visit our clinic for these specific services.
This consultation focuses on your pelvic health, whether you have symptoms or not. Strengthening the pelvic floor is particularly important during pregnancy and after delivery and can help avoid pelvic floor problems later in life. The main symptoms related to pelvic health are urinary, fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia (painful sex), and vaginismus (spasm of the muscles around the vagina). These conditions may be present prior to your pregnancy, develop during your pregnancy or after the birth.
During your appointment, we will review your history, give advice on fluids and diet intake. The examination could involve palpating your tummy as well as your back and hips. We may also need to perform an internal vaginal examination to assess your pelvic floor and the surrounding structures. We understand the assessment and treatment may be outside your comfort zone, but we will work with you to achieve your goals.
A common question is what if I have my periods? We can still examine you, but we would totally understand if you were not comfortable, and we can work outside of your pelvis to continue working towards your treatment goals.
